How Skin Tightening Works

To understand skin tightening treatments, we first must understand what makes our skin loose in the first place. Skin’s elasticity comes from two natural proteins: elastin and collagen. Age causes the protein fibers to fragment or unravel, and the production of the proteins reduces over time. The damaged and reduced amount of proteins in the skin prevent it from holding its firm youthful shape; instead skin begins to sag and wrinkle.

Each type of skin tightening procedure is designed to overcome the challenges of lacking these proteins.

  • Dermal Fillers are a temporary solution that masks the lack of collagen and elastin by filling out the area.

  • Botox and Dysport are a temporary solution that numbs the area and prevents it from wrinkling with our natural movements.

  • Laser, Radio Waves, and Ultrasound Energy cause intentional thermal damage to encourage the skin to repair itself and increase collagen and elastin.

  • Micro-Needling temporarily displaces the skin with tiny needles to encourage collagen and elastin production.

  • Plastic Surgery is used to completely remove sections of excess skin.

How is ellacor® Different?

The ellacor® cosmetic procedure uses a Micro-Coring® system that uses hollow needles to remove micro-cores of skin. This leads to an improved appearance of sagging skin and moderate and severe wrinkles.1

Each needle’s diameter is less than 0.5mm which, at up to 5 mm coring depth, will remove 7% - 8% of the skin without scarring.1,2 The device is moved precisely over the skin and, in less than 3 seconds, can cover a 10mm square area. The entire procedure can be completed in less than half an hour.

Your body’s natural healing response will be spurred into action and quickly realign to close the cores.4 We typically perform the procedure three times, spaced a month apart, for maximum results. The healed skin will be tightened, natural, and radiant.

We chose to use the ellacor® procedure to provide our patients with the benefits of skin tightening that are:
  • Long-lasting
  • Nonsurgical
  • Free of Thermal Damage
  • Effective
